How to Become a Better Person – 2024 Edition

Just like we have an important project at work, a big milestone that will push our career forward, we have another important one. The one project we often deprioritise because other things are perceived as more important is life. Each person should treat their life as the most important project that will help them be a better person. Just like we treat others well, we must do the same for the most important person to create a perfect lifestyle. We’re the most important, so we’ll tell you how you can be better and ultimately happier.

Do a life audit

If you want to be honest with areas of your life that need improvement and be honest with yourself, do a life audit. A life audit is an activity in which you evaluate your current life, wishes, goals, and desires. The key here is complete honesty and ownership, so you’ll write down things you want to improve. Once you identify parts you wish to improve, list activities that will take you closer to your goals.

Make a promise

After completing a life audit, it’s time to take ownership and responsibility for your actions. Remember that the path to improvement is paved with micro habits that will pile up and create a compound effect. If you start exercising today and engage in physical activity every day, the effects will compound. If you start today, imagine where you’ll be in a year. So make a few promises to yourself, just a few non-negotiable activities you’ll do every day so you’ll be a better person in a year.

Process things that halt your progress

At some point, you’ll probably notice that you’ve managed to improve some areas of your life, but there’s still an area or two where you’re not keeping a promise to yourself. Let’s say you’ve promised to learn how to manage stress better, but somehow you’re still being triggered by the same things. This is your cue to seek the help of a holistic psychotherapist at a Free Your Body centre and process things that halt your progress. Sometimes, we need the help of highly skilled professionals to progress with our decisions and goals.

Pursue daily joy

When we talk about joy, we talk about the feeling of complete happiness that takes over our minds, body and soul. This type of feeling, this utter joy, is found in the real world, not the digital one.

It’s time to look at our phone addiction with a critical eye and see how we can break free.

When you break free from your phone addiction, you will enjoy the small things in life and make more time for things that spark joy and personal growth.

Find ways to grow

Growth, both personal and professional, is found in doing the work. If you want to have a strong body, you must spend time on strength training. If you want to achieve growth in your career, you need to invest your time in obtaining new skills and taking more responsibility at work.

It’s up to us to spark growth in our lives by simply committing to a goal. The sense of achievement and pride will push us further. When we feel good about ourselves and when we are confident, we’re better for ourselves and other people as well.

Take time to recharge

Take time to recharge before you take up something new or set up a new goal for yourself. The idea is to rest before taking action, even if it’s just an hour a day. When prioritising rest as a regular activity, we’ll eliminate the shame first. Secondly, you can focus on something new if you don’t have the mental or physical capacity. So, stop, rest, recharge and then take up a new goal.

Collect memories

One of the reasons we’re dissatisfied in life is because we’re lost in the daily and repetitive activities. Routines are great as they help us be disciplined and stay on track. However, being in a rut is something entirely else.

Sometimes, we need to be reminded that life is one and it’s a short adventure. So, we should make it a story worth retelling by collecting memories. Whether through travelling, working from a different cafe daily, or trying something for the first time every month, turn it into collectable memories.

The path to becoming a better person is clear, we just need to know which one to take. Also, we need to learn how to overcome obstacles and self-beliefs that stop us from achieving our goals. Luckily for us, the change starts with a life audit, so do one now.
